Gardaí have arrested a man in connection with an attempted abduction of a child in Co Laois yesterday morning.

Gardaí have arrested a man in connection with an attempted abduction of a child in Co Laois yesterday morning.

The incident happened at Cullahill in Portlaoise at around 11am yesterday.

The man was arrested in Co Kilkenny and is being transferred to Portlaoise Garda Station.

Gardaí were searching for a stolen silver Nissan X-Trail 4x4 driven by a man, which they have now recovered.

The jeep was seen acting suspiciously in the area prior to the incident.

Anyone with any information in relation to the location of this vehicle is asked to contact 999, 112 or Portlaoise Garda station on 057-8674100.
