A motorcyclist has been seriously injured following a crash on the M11 earlier this morning that resulted in the M50 being closed for seven hours.

The crash happened shortly after 10.30am this morning when the motorcyclist collided with another vehicle.

It is understood that the driver of the other vehicle escaped serious injury but was left in shock following the collision.

The road fully reopened shortly after 4pm, but large delays are still reported and it is likely to affect people's commute home this evening.

Traffic is still very heavy around Bray, particularly on Killarney Rd, Upper Dargle Rd, Greystones Rd and on Main Street and motorists are being asked to avoid the area if possible.

Earlier in the day there was tailbacks as far back as Bray and into Shankill and delays were also reported on Dublin Bus on the 45a and 145 routes
