Four-year-old boy dies after crash; Brother and mother still in hospital

A four-year-old boy who was seriously injured in a crash in Co Laois last night has died in hospital.

He was travelling in a car with his mother and seven-year-old brother at the time of the two-car collision at Ballymorris near Portarlington at about 8.40pm yesterday.

A mother, who is aged in her 30s, was seriously injured and taken to Tullamore hospital. Her two young sons were rushed to Portlaoise.

The deceased boy’s brother - who is aged seven - is being treated for minor injuries.

The driver of the second car was arrested at the scene and has since been released without charge.

Gardaí say their investigation into the crash is ongoing. They are appealing for any witnesses to come forward.
