A man in his 40s has been seriously injured after being shot in west Dublin.

The incident occurred at a busy Lidl supermarket on the Blakestown Road in Blanchardstown.

Gardaí and emergency services were called to the scene this afternoon at around 5.20pm.

The victim, a man in his 40s, was treated at the scene by Dublin Fire Brigade paramedics and rushed to hospital.

His condition has been described as "serious but not life-threatening".

It is understood the man suffered a gunshot wound to the stomach.

A spokesperson for Lidl said they were not in a position to comment at present as the incident is under investigation by gardaí .

A large garda presence remains in the area tonight.

They are also investigating whether a car found burned-out nearby may be connected to the attack.

Gardaí say no arrests have been made and that investigations are ongoing.
