Man jailed for sexual activity with four-yr-old daughter while mum told her to smile for camera

A Dublin man has been jailed for four years for sexually exploiting his four-year-old daughter.

The court heard he engaged in sexual activity with the girl which was filmed by the child's mother who told her to smile for the camera.

During the 28-year-old man's trial, the jury saw video footage from a mobile phone SD card showing sexual activity between him and his four-year-old daughter.

The footage was filmed by the young girl's mother who was jailed for 16 months in 2012 for sexual exploitation and sexual assault.

Gardaí began an investigation when a concerned member of the public handed in the SD card.

The man, who cannot be named to protect his daughter, was convicted of child exploitation and of knowingly causing or facilitating the production of child pornography between 2009 and 2010.

The defence argued at sentencing that their client can be seen in the footage asking his former partner to stop the child interfering with him.

Judge Sarah Berkeley has imposed a five-year sentence with the final year suspended.
