Seanad passes Water Services Bill by three votes

The controversial Water Services Bill has been passed by the Seanad this evening.

The government had imposed a deadline of 6pm for completion of the debate.

The Bill was passed by 28 to 25.

The legislation contains measures to bring in the reduced water charges announced by the Government last month.

The bill now goes to President Michael D Higgins for his signature.

However, a number of Senators are appealing for members of the Oireachtas to support their petition calling on the President not to sign the legislation.
