Gardaí launch murder inquiry after woman's death in Waterford

Gardai in Waterford have upgraded the investigation into a woman's death in the city to a murder probe.

The body of 31-year-old Samanth Walsh was found in a Waterford city apartment yesterday.

The decision to upgrade the investigation to a murder inquiry follows the results of a post mortem examination carried out earlier today at University Hospital Waterford.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene at an apartment at Thomas Court, on Thomas Street, shortly after 3pm yesterday.

An incident room has been set up at Waterford garda station.

Speaking at Waterford Garda Station this evening Superintendent Christopher Delaney said – "We are appealing to any member of the public who may have any information in respect of this crime to contact us and in particular any persons who were in the area of Thomas Street or its environs on Thursday night 27th April 2017 into the early hours of Friday morning April 28 who witnessed anything and may have any information which may assist us.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact Waterford Garda Station on 051-305300 or Garda Confidential line 1800 666 111.
