Gardaí in Wicklow are investigating an armed robbery at a service station in Arklow yesterday.

A masked male raider entered the shop on the Dublin Road at around 5pm armed with what is believed to have been a knife.

He threatened staff and demanded cash before making off in the direction of Briggs Lane.

Gardaí were alerted and in a follow-up search, a man in his 20s was arrested. He was detained at Arklow garda station.

All the cash has been recovered.

The man was released from custody last night and a file is being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.
