Hundreds protest homelessness in Dublin one year after Jonathan Corrie's death

Hundreds of people have taken part in a protest in Dublin against government inaction on homelessness.

It’s one year since Jonathan Corrie died across the road from the Dáil, where Taoiseach Enda Kenny again refused to rule out raising rent supplement this afternoon.

The number of homeless people in emergency accommodation has risen steadily in the past year.

Director of Advocacy with Focus Ireland, Mike Allen says the Government’s refusal to raise rent supplements is shocking.

"You either stop the landlords demanding that, which they have refused to do, or you give people the money otherwise you are simply failing them.

"The willingness of the Taoiseach and the Tánaiste just to look at the scale of the family homelessness problem that is emerging in this country and the consequences for those children and refusing to take action is just shocking and horrific."
