Nephew gets life for murdering his uncle

A Dublin man has been jailed for life for murdering his uncle.

David Cully of Kilshane Road in Finglas argued he had been provoked by Edward O’Connor, but his defence was rejected by a jury last month.

A Victim Impact Statement, read out today on behalf of Edward O’Connor’s widow Charlotte, described him as a hard-working, family man.

The court heard words would never explain the void left by what she described as a "brutal murder".

Mr Cully was then handed the mandatory life sentence.
