Road users urged to be cautious across Bank Holiday weekend
Road users are being urged to exercise caution over the Bank Holiday weekend.
Ten people have been killed and 40 people have been seriously injured over the past six October Bank Holiday weekends.
Gardaí and the RSA are reminding people to be safe and be seen, particularly as the clocks go back on Saturday.
They said major routes are likely to be busier than usual today as people leave the cities.
"There's simply more people out using the roads, travelling to other parts of the country just for a break," according to RSA spokesperson Brian Farrell.
"There's also the added challenge of it being this time of year when the evenings are getting darker and the clocks are going back.
"All those factors combined make the weekend a potentially high-risk period for road users," he added.
