Focus Ireland appeal to Ballymun protestors to allow construction to go ahead

Focus Ireland has made a direct appeal to protesters who are blocking the construction of modular houses in Dublin.

The housing charity has said over 20 families will be left homeless for Christmas if they do not stop preventing access to the site in Poppintree in Ballymun.

Local residents there claim they had invested €5,000 each in the site - which was meant to be used for other social housing projects.

But Roghan McNamara from Focus Ireland has said there is no reason to object to the buildings: “I believe that the dispute that the protestors have is that they are claiming the construction of the modular homes will hit construction of other social homes there.

“DCC has come out and assured the protestors, I understand, that this is not the case -so there doesn’t seem to be any grounds to continue the protest and Focus Ireland would call strongly on them to look at what their actions are doing.”
