A body has been discovered in Waterford today.

A body has been discovered in Waterford today.

At about 5.15pm this evening a member of the public called emergency services when they spotted a person's remains in the water at Granny in Ferrybank.

A Coast Guard helicopter was launched and directed the river rescue team to the body.

The remains have been removed to Waterford University Hospital Mortuary where a post mortem will take place on Saturday.

It is not known at this stage if the body is that of a man or a woman.
