Weather warning issued for east of the country

Tonight and tomorrow look like a washout in the east of the country.

Met Éireann has issued a status Orange rainfall warning for Leinster, for heavy and persistent rain on the way.

"Rainfall amounts of 40 to 70 mm over 24 hours are likely," the warning states.

The bad weather coincides with the traditional exodus for the Bank Holiday weekend.

The country's roads will be busy and the Road Safety Authority has warned motorists to take their time.
