Government urged to increase funding for farm schemes in Budget

Farmers are urging the Government to demonstrate its commitment to rural Ireland in today's Budget.

The IFA is calling for better funding for farm schemes.

It also wants flexibility in the tax system to help farmers hit by price fluctuations and bad weather.

IFA president Joe Healy said that keeping fuel costs down is also an issue.

"We also have impressed on the Government the absolute need not to increase the excise duty, the excise rates, on agri-diesel and other road fuels."
