Gardaí investigating the stabbing of Dublin footballer Jonny Cooper say they are examining CCTV footage in an effort to identify his attacker.
The 24-year-old was stabbed with a blade in the face, back and neck on Dorset Street Upper in Dublin city centre in the early hours of yesterday morning. Mr Cooper had been on a night out with friends in the city after his club Na Fianna's defeat in the Dublin SFC and was walking home alone when he was approached by a man who demanded his wallet and stabbed him.
He was rushed to the Mater Hospital for treatment but has since been discharged.
"This was a shocking incident," said Stephen Breen, Investigations Editor for the Irish Sun.
"Mr Cooper was on a night out with friends and was on his way home along Upper Dorset St when he sat down to eat some chips.
"He was subsequently attacked from behind (by) a man whom Gardaí believe was following him.
"When he was on the ground he was stabbed in the back, the neck and in the face in a brutal and savage assault."
