Kerry is the favourite destination for Irish people holidaying at home, with Galway and Cork in second and third place.

Some 26% selected the Kingdom as their favourite county for a break.

Galway scored 15.5% and Cork came in on 14.5%; Wexford was favourite with 8%, Donegal 7% and Clare 6%, followed by Mayo, Dublin, Waterford and Kilkenny.

When asked what they thought was the country's least appealing county for a holiday, respondents said Leitrim was the least, followed by Laois and Dublin.

More than 1,700 people took part in the survey, carried out by MyHome.ie.
