The Army Bomb Disposal Team have rendered safe an historic artillery shell in Cork this evening.

War of Independence era bomb made safe in Cork city

The Army Bomb Disposal Team have rendered safe an historic artillery shell in Cork this evening.

The unit was deployed after the device was found protruding from undergrowth in a forested area near the Lee Road in Cork City.

The team arrived on scene at 5pm and made the shell safe by a controlled explosion.

The artillery shell is early 20th century in origin and was utilised during the War of Independence and World War 1.
