A motorcyclist who was critically injured in a crash in Co Clare has died.

A motorcyclist who was critically injured in a crash in Co Clare has died. The collision occurred around 11.45am just outside Kilkee.

The male motorcyclist, who was in his 40s, was airlifted by Shannon Rescue 115 to University Hospital Limerick this afternoon with critical injuries.

It is understood that he was taking part in a rally to raise money for a charity for which he is also the fundraising co-ordinator.

The incident involving a car and his motorbike occurred just outside Kilkee on the N67 Kilrush road.

The female driver of the car was uninjured.

Kilkee Coastguard and several units of the Fire and ambulance service and local gardaí attended the scene after a member of the public called emergency services.

The road has been closed and the scene is being examined by a Garda forensic unit.
