It has been confirmed that a pregnant woman died at the National Maternity Hospital, in Holles Street in Dublin.

It has been confirmed that a pregnant woman died at the National Maternity Hospital, in Holles Street in Dublin.

In a statement tonight, the hospital confirmed a death had taken place this year.

It has been reported the 34-year-old woman died during emergency surgery to deal with an ectopic pregnancy on May 8.

It said all maternal deaths are subject to a Coroner's inquiry.

A spokesperson said the death was "a deeply tragic event".
