July saw a slight increase in the number of people unemployed, according to official statistics released today.

The latest CSO report stated that the overall seasonally adjusted unemployment rate for July remained at 9.7%, unchanged from the previous month.

The rates for both men and women were unchanged in July at 10.8% and 8.4% respectively.

Some 127,700 men unemployed in July 2015, a decrease of 200 compared to the previous month.

However, the number of women unemployed in July increased by 500 to 81,200 from June 2015.

The total seasonally adjusted number of people unemployed was 208,900 in July 2015, an increase of 300 when compared to June 2015.

Unemployment is down from 11.2% when compared to the same month in 2014, however.

The seasonally adjusted youth unemployment rate (persons aged 15-24) was 20.2% in July 2015. This compares to 19.9% in June 2015.
