President Michael D Higgins will lead the state commemoration of the funeral of Jeremiah O'Donovan Rossa this morning.

The event, which will also be attended by the Taoiseach Enda Kenny, is the first formal State commemoration of the 2016 Centenary programme.

Jeremiah O'Donovan Rossa, who died in June 1915, was a member of the Irish Republican Brotherhood.

Pádraig Pearse gave his graveside oration which was considered pivotal in the lead up to the 1916 Rising.
