Mairia Cahill to run for Seanad seat

Mairia Cahill's been nominated to contest the Seanad bye-election for the Labour Party.

Ms Cahill said she is happy to accept the nomination from Tánaiste Joan Burton and Minister for the Environment Alan Kelly.

She hopes to take the seat vacated by Jimmy Harte, who has battled serious illness in recent months.

As it is a Labour vacancy, Fine Gael is expected to support her nomination.
