Emergency services are battling a major fire at a housing estate in Newbridge in Co. Kildare.

At least four houses are understood to have been virtually destroyed by the blaze which broke out at the Millfield Manor area of Curragh Grange just after 5.30pm this evening.

Fire personnel and Gardai are still at the scene as efforts are made to bring the fire under control.

There are no reports of any injuries.

UPDATE: at 9pm

A blaze at a housing estate in Co. Kildare is being contained.

Six houses have been virtually destroyed by the fire which broke out at Millfield Manor in Curragh Grange, Newbridge, at just after 5.30pm.

Fire services are still at the scene.

Gardai say there are no reports of injuries.
