Exchequer figures could lead to more jobs

A business group has said the latest Exchequer figures could lead to more jobs being created, as the country's finances improve.

The exchequer has taken in 1.4 billion euro more than expected in taxes so far this year, a rise of ten percent on the same time last year.

Government spending is also below expectations and an overspend in Health has been counteracted by underspending in the departments of Social Protection and the Environment.

Director of Policy with Chambers Ireland Mark O’Mahoney has said it should improve consumer spending and ultimately, lead to more job creation: "For consumers it should mean that they'll have a little bit more money in their pocket, that they'll have a little bit more confidence that they can spend a bit more.

"This will have a knock-on positive impact for small businesses throughout the country, as they see increased receipts, and provides them with the opportunity to create more employment and more jobs."
