The energy regulator has officially approved the new regime of water charges - nine weeks after they kicked in.

The Commission for Energy Regulation has approved the charges of €160 a year for homes with one adult, and €260 a year for all others.

However, the government has faced calls from Fianna Fáil today to delay the first water bills until after a major EU test.
