Union wants Mater Hospital to go off-call to combat overcrowding

A nurses union wants the Mater Hospital in Dublin to go off-call today due to severe overcrowding in the Emergency Department.

The INMO says its figures showed 29 patients on trolleys this morning, but it has since learned there are 45 admitted patients waiting for a bed.

The nurses union is meeting management today and an emergency meeting of INMO members will take place afterwards.

INMO members nationally have voted by 92% in favour of industrial action because of severe overcrowding across all 25 Emergency Departments
