Rabbitte: I won't run in next General Election

Former Labour Party leader Pat Rabbitte has announced he will not contest the next General Election.

He informed party members of his decision this evening.

The announcement comes despite a recent poll showing he would be likely to secure his seat if he ran.

He has served as a representative for Dublin South-West since 1989.

Tánaiste Joan Burton praised Mr Rabbitte's "distinguished service".
