Police in Mauritius have launched a fresh investigation into the murder of Michaela McAreavey.

The 27-year-old was strangled to death in her hotel room while on her honeymoon in 2011.

Two hotel workers were charged but later acquitted of her murder.

Her husband John has criticised the investigation saying it would not find justice for Michaela.

Mr McAreavey also said he was "sickened" by the partnership between Liverpool FC and the island, according to the

Irish Examiner.

The club announced last month that Mauritius would be its new official tourism and economic development partner.

Mr McAreavey has previously said that authorities were more concerned with preserving the island's image as a holiday destination than finding his wife's killers.

Michaela was the daughter of Tyrone football manager, Mickey Harte, and is thought to have been murdered when she returned to the hotel room alone while a burglary was taking place.
