Calls for scheme to be introduced in relation to fire safety notices

There are calls for a scheme similar to the one in place for pyrite remediation to be made available to homes issued with fire safety notices.

Last week it emerged Longboat Quay apartment complex in Dublin was in breach of standards.

Now residents of Riverwalk Court in Ratoath in Co Meath face being presented with a fire safety notice from Meath County Council on Friday.

Darren O’Rourke, Sinn Fein Councillor for the Ashbourne ward, has said residents can't be expected to foot the bill: “There have similar examples you look at the pyrite remediation scheme and ironically there are a number of estates a stone’s throw distance from Riverwalk Court who were affected by the issue of pyrite,” Mr O’Rourke said.

“We saw there where there was an approach, a resolution, for those families who were caught in that difficult situation it ended up being the taxpayer on the hook for that.”
