Irish Rail strike called off
Strike action at Irish Rail has been called off.
The company has put off implementing pay cuts after new proposals were set out at the Labour Relations Commission.
News that the strikes have been averted broke in the early hours of this morning.
All sides had spent another marathon session at the LRC, trying to hammer out a solution to the row that had already disrupted tens of thousands of passengers and cost the company €1.5m last month.
Irish Rail now says the strike action has been averted, and parties have agreed to endorse a revised set of proposals which address "all key issues".
They will be put to a ballot of union members, with Irish Rail management agreeing to pause pay a reduction for three weeks to facilitate a vote.
It means the work stoppages planned for next Sunday - the day of the all Ireland hurling final - and the day after, as well as a third one on September 21 will not go ahead.
