A holiday flight was forced to divert to Shannon Airport today after a man on board was reported to be disruptive.

Thomas Cook (Scandinavia) flight VKG-5827 was travelling from Oslo to Tenerife in the Canary Islands at the time.

The Airbus A330-300 jet, with 295 passengers and crew on board, touched down in Shannon at 12.20pm and was met at the terminal by Airport Police officers and Gardaí.

The man, understood to be a Latvian national in his late 20s, was arrested at the scene and taken to Shannon Garda station for questioning.

He was later released without charge however Gardaí have confirmed that a file on the matter will be prepared and sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for consideration.

The flight continued its journey at 1.32pm.

On New Year’s Day, a 41-year-old woman was arrested at Shannon after the crew of Jet2.com flight LS-518 decided to divert and have her removed from the aircraft.

The woman, from Sunderland, was reported to be abusive and aggressive. She was released after questioning and file sent to the DPP.
