A Cork family has picked up €500,000 they won in the EuroMillions Plus draw last week.

They won the prize on October 14, the day of the draw, with a Quick Pick ticket they bought in SuperValu in Macroom, Co. Cork.

The winning husband said: "We were at home on the Saturday when my wife excitedly asked me where I had bought our EuroMillions ticket.

"There was a post on Facebook that said that the SuperValu in Macroom had sold the winning ticket so I gave it to her to check it on the National Lottery website.

"A couple of minutes later she let out a shout to say that we had won."

He said that they couldn't believe they had won so much at the time.

He said: "It never registered with me that we had won the half million euro prize. I asked her how much we had won, thinking that it was a couple of hundred euro.

"Not believing it to be true, we spent the next hour double checking our numbers just to make sure."

According to his wife, it could have been a different story for the family had he not been constantly reminded to play the Plus option on his EuroMillions ticket.

She said: "We would be regular EuroMillions players but my husband doesn’t always include the Plus option on our tickets so I have to keep reminding him all the time.

"Thank god he picked the Plus this time."
