Gardaí have arrested three men after a car failed to stop for Gardaí at a checkpoint last night.

Gardaí have arrested three men after a car failed to stop for Gardaí at a checkpoint last night.

The incident occurred shortly before midnight last night on the N80 in Clonegal, Co Carlow.

The car was followed by a number of Garda units across Co Carlow before it rammed a Garda patrol car on St Joseph's Road in Carlow town a short time later.

The occupants of the car, three males aged in their 20s, were arrested at the scene.

They are currently detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984 at Carlow Garda Station.

Three Gardaí injured during the incident were taken from the scene for treatment at St. Luke's Hospital, Kilkenny.

They were later discharged.

Two garda patrol cars were damaged.

A small amount of Cocaine (pending analysis) has been recovered by investigating Gardaí and a technical examination of the scene is underway.

The investigation is ongoing and further updates will follow.
