The occupants of the car, three males aged in their 20s, were arrested at the scene.

They are currently detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984 at Carlow Garda Station.

Three Gardaí injured during the incident were taken from the scene for treatment at St. Luke's Hospital, Kilkenny.
