High Court orders extradition of man in connection with 1988 murder

The High Court has ordered a 49-year-old man to be extradited to the North where he is wanted in connection with a 1998 murder.

Francis Lanigan with a last address at Pinebrook in Mulhuddart previously spent two years in custody having been arrested on foot of an extradition warrant in connection with the murder of John Knocker, who was shot dead in a hotel car park in Dungannon, Co Tyrone in May 1998.

The father of one spent 15 years living under an assumed name and was arrested by a detective garda who had covertly done a DNA test on a coffee cup at his place of work, and determined his real identity.

Mr Lanigan has been fighting his extradition, and claims he faces a "significant risk to his life" if he is handed over to UK authorities to face prosecution.

Mr Lanigan was remanded on continuing bail to return to court again on Friday.
