A 25-year-old Wexford woman who suffered serious head injuries in a drunken hit-and-run is to receive €1.2m damages in a High Court settlement today.

A 25-year-old Wexford woman who suffered serious head injuries in a drunken hit-and-run is to receive €1.2m damages in a High Court settlement today.

Laura Byrne from New Ross was one of several pedestrians that were struck by a car at John Street in June 2009.

She has been left brain damaged as a result of the crash which was caused by an uninsured drunk driver who failed to stop at the scene.

He was subsequently jailed for two and a half years for dangerous driving.
