Unions outside Lansdowne Road deal will not get pay increases, warns Howlin

Public-sector unions who do not accept the Lansdowne Road agreement have been warned that they will not get the benefits of the deal next year.

Public Expenditure Minister Brendan Howlin today signed the paperwork which will see the pension levy on public workers reduced in January.

However, he said that unions outside of the Lansdowne Road deal will not get increased pay when it is due in July.

"They obviously will have to make their own call in relation to how things progress," he said.

"It's a simple way of dealing with any negotiated settlement, is you negotiate a settlement, people either sign up to it or they don't, but you can’t have only the bits of the settlement that you like and not the bits of the settlement you don't like."
