Four Irish citizens have been injured in a plane crash in Florida.

Two of them sustained serious but not life threatening injuries after their small aircraft crash landed in a park near St. Petersburg.

Police in Florida say the pilot and a male passenger who are both in their 50s were badly hurt in the accident.

A teenage girl and a 48-year-old man, also reported to be Irish citizens, sustained only minor injuries.

The Cherokee plane was travellling a short distance from the State capital Tallahassee to St. Petersburg when it came down on Monday.
