The family of a husband and wife who died on Monday are asking for privacy.
Marie Quigley, 68, was found dead with head injuries at her home in Rathmore near Hackballscross by a family member and gardaí who had called to the house after her husband died in a crash.
Jim Quigley, 69, had driven his car the wrong way down the M1 motorway, injuring three other people. He died after he swerved into the side of an oncoming truck.
Gardaí said it was fortunate that more lives were not lost at the scene on the Dublin-Belfast motorway. Three passengers in a vehicle on the other side of the truck suffered non-life threatening injuries.
Gardaí are treating Marie Quigley's death as murder, but are not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident.
In a statement issued last night, the couple's four children asked for privacy to grieve their parents.
“We would ask all media outlets to respect our privacy and let us grieve our parents,” they said.
“We would like to thank our extended family and friends for their continued thoughts and prayers.”

The couple's son drowned in 2006 and this hit Mr Quigley badly, it is thought.

It emerged yesterday that he had struggled with mental health problems and had spent periods of time receiving treatment in hospital.
However, garda sources said that this in itself, does not explain his actions and will investigate all issues, including any domestic disagreements between the couple or any financial issues.
