Mounting pressure for national bodies to reveal salaries

National bodies are under mounting pressure to reveal the salaries of leading members.

It follows the revelations regarding former IFA General Secretary Pat Smith, who earned over €500,000 in 2013 in pay and pensions.

Less than half of union bosses consented to revealing their pay levels when surveyed recently by the Irish Independent.

Government Minister Paschal Donohoe says they should make their salaries known.

"What I believe is important is salaries for individuals who are leading organisations that are in the public eye, that those salaries and packages be in the public knowledge and they are made available for people to see.

"In relation to what is happening with the IFA at the moment, I think that is very important now that that organisation does respond back to the concerns that their members clearly have on the matter."
