Gardaí have arrested a 31-year-old man following a carjacking incident in Palmerstown, Dublin.

Gardaí have arrested a 31-year-old man following a carjacking incident in Palmerstown, Dublin.

At around 1.30am this morning, a 58-year-old taxi driver was threatened and assaulted by a man with a knife.

He was forced from his vehicle in a shopping centre car park in Palmerstown, and the car was driven off towards the N4.

The taxi driver was taken to Ballyfermot Garda Station where he received medical treatment for his injuries which are described as non-life-threatening.

Members of the Garda Regional Support Unit intercepted the taxi at a filling station near Maynooth, Co. Kildare, shortly before 8am.

A man is being detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984, at Lucan Garda Station.
