A two-year-old child who suffered severe head injuries after falling from the first floor of a building in Wexford remains in a serious condition.

The toddler fell from the building and the circumstances of how the accident happened are being investigated.

Emergency services initially took the child to University Hospital Waterford before a decision was made late last night to transfer the baby boy to Dublin by air ambulance.

The Coast Guard Rescue 117 helicopter was called in to bring the toddler from Waterford to Dublin Airport before he was taken by ambulance to Temple Street Children's Hospital at about 3am.

His condition was described by emergency services as serious but stable.
