Dublin murder accused admitted to Central Mental Hospital
A woman accused of murdering her boyfriend in south Dublin has been taken to the Central Mental Hospital.
Merci Peters was due to appear in court today but she was excused from attending to allow for a full assessment to be carried out.
Last Thursday evening, Tyrone McKenna's father returned to his home at Marlay Court in Rathfarnham to find his son slumped on the stairs.
He quickly raised the alarm but the 42-year-old was pronounced dead a short time later.
A post mortem revealed he had been stabbed in the back.
A knife, believed to be used in his killing, was recovered from the house and taken away for tests.
The victim's girlfriend Merci Peters was arrested and brought before a special court sitting on Saturday charged with his murder.
Tyrone's elderly father was in court this morning for what was supposed to be her second appearance but the judge heard she was not going to be produced.
The brief hearing took place in her absence because she has spent the past few days undergoing tests in the Central Mental Hospital.
As a result, the case was adjourned and the 41-year-old native of Sierra Leone is due back in court next month.
