Climate-change protesters to bury their heads in the sand in Dublin

Hundreds of people are expected to bury their heads in the sand in protest at Ireland's position on climate change today.

Stop Climate Chaos has organised the demonstration on Sandymount Strand to raise awareness of the issue.

The group is highly critical of how the Government has worked to address the issue in its term in office.

Spokesperson Ciara Kirrane said today's gathering will be a family-friendly affair.

"We really feel that the Government have not lived up to what they said they'd do in terms of climate change," she said.

"We have no action plan on climate change, so in terms of tackling our emissions we don't have any plan in place.

"As a country, we haven't made a financial pledge to the Green Climate Fund, which is a fund that supports some of the most vulnerable communities to adapt to the impacts of climate change, and we're one of the few developed countries who haven't done that yet."
