The Clare Motor Club Annual Hillclimb has been cancelled after a man died in an accident during the event yesterday.

The Clare Motor Club Annual Hillclimb has been cancelled after a man died in an accident during the event yesterday.

34-year-old competitor Simon McKinley from Meath was killed after he reportedly crashed his vehicle at around 5.30pm yesterday evening, in the Gortaclare, Bellharbour area of the Burren.

He was taken to University Hospital Limerick where a post mortem examination is due to take place.

Motorsport Ireland have extended their sympathy to the man's family and friends.
