Gardaí have arrested a woman after a serious assault in Limerick overnight in which another woman was hospitalised.

Gardaí have arrested a woman after a serious assault in Limerick overnight in which another woman was hospitalised.

The incident happened around 3.30am on Parnell Street.

The injured woman was taken to University Hospital Limerick with numerous head injuries.

The area has been sealed off for a technical examination as gardaí continue their investigation.

The arrested woman is being held by Gardaí at Roxboro Garda Station under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act.

She can be held for a maximum of 24 hours.
