Micheál Martin has called for more resources for the Gardaí

The Fianna Fáil Leader has called for more resources to be assigned to the Gardaí following yesterday's gangland killing in Dublin.

Micheál Martin has said criminal gangs are now killing people without any fear of prosecution.

David Byrne was gunned down at the Regency Hotel in Dublin while attending a boxing match weigh-in.

Speaking in Roscrea this morning, Micheál Martin condemned the killing and said we need more specialist resources to tackle organised crime: “We need specialised approaches to this, we need specialised approached in terms of the Gardaí, there is no question about that.

“In terms of specialised courts to deal with some of these criminals who spread fear and intimidation across the land and many people have been afraid to testify against them.

“Across the full canopy of mechanisms we need to double up in terms of our resources now.”
