Businessman Denis O'Brien did not get any "special consideration or special deals" at IBRC bank, according to former bank director Alan Dukes.

“He was a fully performing client of the bank,” said Mr Dukes.

“He met all of his obligations to the bank – any bank would be quite happy to have a client who acted in that way.

“And anything that Catherine Murphy has said to the effect that he was getting some special consideration or special deals were being done in an unusual or unethical way, all those suggestions are completely wrong.”

Mr Dukes says every case was dealt with "on its merits" when it came to dealings with customers of the bank.

He said the main motivation was always to secure the maximum return for the bank and the taxpayer.
