Rail talks set to resume

Talks aimed at resolving the dispute at Irish Rail will resume at the Labour Relations Commission later.

Discussions in the ongoing row over pay cuts were adjourned late last night after more than 10 hours.

Management at the company want to avoid three further strikes planned for next Sunday and Monday, as well as September 21.

It follows two 24-hour work stoppages last month which halted services, disrupted tens of thousands of customers and cost Irish Rail €1.5m.

The talks will get underway from 10.30am this morning.

General Secretary of the National Bus and Rail Workers' Union (NBRU) Dermot O'Leary says they've laid out their side of the argument and it's up to management to decide what happens next.

"They have listend to what we have to say in great detail and the message that they have imparted to us before the adjournment was that they need to consider what we have said to them," Mr O'Leary said.

"They were considering that overnight and we will reconvene to establish if there is a basis for progress or not."
